From time to time, it becomes essential for communities—especially young minds—to rediscover the joy of imagination, play, and the boundless possibilities of creativity. These moments of playful renewal not only bring joy but also nourish the human spirit, inspiring curiosity, wonder, and a deeper connection with the world around us. It is in this spirit that Corban Estate Arts Centre proudly presents Rainbow Machine as part of the Kids Arts Festival 2025: Celebrating Colour.
Rainbow Machine is a radiant celebration of light, movement, and colour. Conceived by Shahriar Asdollah-Zadeh, Patrick Loo, and Sarosh Mulla, this striking yellow invention merges the worlds of science, art, design, and engineering into a single, awe-inspiring creation. Designed to transform sunlight into sweeping arcs of colour, the Rainbow Machine invites children—and the child in all of us—to explore how light can be bent, shifted, and brought to life through interactive play.
This mobile artwork, part of the Auckland Council Public Art Collection, offers more than visual delight. It is an open invitation to turn, twist, observe, and imagine. Children can take control of the wheels, witness the magic unfold before their eyes, and understand the beauty of the natural world in a hands-on, deeply personal way. It encourages exploration and rewards curiosity, turning an ordinary moment into an extraordinary experience.
Importantly, the Rainbow Machine is completely FREE to enjoy. Whether under the bright blue sky or amidst overcast clouds, its magic endures—illuminating the world with wonder regardless of the weather.
Corban Estate Arts Centre, long committed to nurturing creativity and community engagement, sees the Rainbow Machine as a perfect embodiment of its values. In offering this experience as part of our April programme, we continue our mission to make art accessible, joyful, and transformative for all who visit.
We invite families, schools, and curious individuals of all ages to come and discover this joyful expression of colour and creativity. Step into the light—turn the wheel—and let the Rainbow Machine awaken your imagination.
