Mary, Mother of Jesus
Mary was a young woman from Nazareth, engaged to Joseph, when an angel told her she would conceive and give birth to the Son of God through the Holy Spirit. Her story begins in Luke 1:26–38.

“Let it be to me”
Mary’s response to the angel’s announcement — “let it be to me according to your word” — is remarkable given what she was being asked to accept: an unexplainable pregnancy, in a culture where that could have meant social disgrace or worse. She went on to raise Jesus alongside Joseph, was present at His first miracle in Cana, followed Him to the cross when most of His disciples had fled, and is recorded among the believers waiting in Jerusalem after His ascension.
