Cain and Abel

Adam and Eve’s first two sons were Cain, a farmer, and Abel, a shepherd. Their story — the Bible’s first murder — is told in Genesis 4.

What were the names of the two sons of Adam and Eve mentioned in Genesis?
👉 Cain and Abel.

The first murder

Both brothers brought offerings to God — Cain from his crops, Abel from the best of his flock. God accepted Abel’s offering but not Cain’s, and rather than examining why, Cain grew angry and killed his brother in a field. When God asked where Abel was, Cain’s reply — “Am I my brother’s keeper?” — has echoed through history as the archetype of denial and self-justification. Cain was banished to wander the earth, marked by God to protect him from being killed himself.
