David, Israel’s Poet-King
King David is credited with writing the majority of the Psalms — roughly half of the book’s 150 entries carry his name in their heading. He wrote as a shepherd, a warrior, a king, and, at times, a man in deep trouble with God.

What sets David’s Psalms apart isn’t just their number but their honesty — Psalm 51, written after his affair with Bathsheba and the death of her husband Uriah, is a raw confession of guilt rather than a polished prayer. Other psalmists contributed too, including the sons of Korah and Asaph, but it’s David’s voice — shepherd-turned-king, deeply flawed, deeply devoted — that shapes the emotional range of the whole book.
