Forty Days and Forty Nights
The story of Noah’s flood is one of the most well-known accounts in the Bible. As human wickedness increased, God instructed Noah to build an ark to preserve life. Once Noah, his family, and the animals were inside, the Bible says: “And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights” (Genesis 7:12).
How many days and nights did it rain during the flood in Noah’s time?

Water from above and below
For 40 days and nights, rain poured down continuously. But that wasn’t all — the Bible also describes underground springs bursting open, so water came from both above and below the earth. The flooding was so extensive that even the highest mountains were covered, and the water remained on the earth long after the rain stopped.
The number 40 appears many times in the Bible and is often associated with testing, waiting, and transformation — such as Jesus fasting for 40 days, or Israel wandering for 40 years. You can read the full account in Genesis chapters 7 and 8.
