Six Days of Creation

The opening chapter of the Bible describes God creating the heavens, the earth, light, land, plants, sun and moon, sea creatures, animals, and finally humans — all across six days. On the seventh day, He rested. The account is found in Genesis 1–2:3.

A pattern for the week

Each of the six days follows the same rhythm in the text: God speaks, something is created, and He calls it good. The seventh day breaks that pattern — nothing is created, God simply rests. This day of rest became the basis for the Sabbath, a weekly rhythm of rest that the Ten Commandments later instruct the Israelites to keep holy.
