Born in Bethlehem
Jesus was born in Bethlehem, a small town in Judea, fulfilling a centuries-old prophecy that the Messiah would come from there. Mary and Joseph had travelled there for a Roman census when Jesus was born, likely in a stable, because there was no room at the inn. The account is in Luke 2:1–7.

A prophecy fulfilled
Centuries earlier, the prophet Micah had written that a ruler for Israel would come from Bethlehem — a town so small it was easy to overlook (Micah 5:2). Bethlehem was also the hometown of King David, which gave Jesus’s birth there extra significance: He was born in “the city of David,” tying His arrival to Israel’s royal history and its long-awaited hope for a king.
