Peter.

Peter’s Three Denials

On the night Jesus was arrested, Peter — the disciple who’d just sworn he’d never abandon Him — denied even knowing Jesus three times before a rooster crowed, just as Jesus had predicted. The scene is in Luke 22:54–62.

Which disciple denied Jesus three times before the rooster crowed?
👉 Peter.

A look, not a lecture

After the third denial, Luke records a small but devastating detail: the rooster crowed, and Jesus — being led away under guard — turned and looked straight at Peter. Peter went outside and wept bitterly. It’s one of the lowest moments for any disciple in the Gospels, but not the end of his story: after the resurrection, Jesus restores Peter directly, asking him three times “do you love me?” — one restoration for each denial — and commissions him to lead the early church.
