JOIN OUR EVENT – HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES

As the autumn leaves begin to turn, we invite you to a series of creative and educational activities designed to spark imagination and connection. Starting Saturday 12 April, our library transforms into a hub of holiday joy with ongoing attractions including our popular Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt, the interactive Jungle I-Spy Wall, and the brain-teasing Daily Boggle Challenge for wordsmiths of all ages.

Monday 14 April | 2:00-3:00 PM
Let creativity slither into your afternoon with our Curly Cardboard Snake workshop. Perfect for children aged 5 and up, this hands-on session guides participants through transforming simple materials into charming coiled companions. Under the guidance of our experienced librarians, young crafters will learn techniques for shaping and decorating their unique serpentine creations, fostering both fine motor skills and artistic expression in a supportive group environment.

Tuesday 15 April | 1:00-2:00 PM
Embark on a prehistoric adventure without leaving town with our special Auckland Zoo Conservation Visit. Designed for budding scientists aged 4+, this immersive experience brings the wonders of paleontology to life. Participants will handle genuine fossils, examine ancient eggs, and discover fascinating facts about Earth’s ancient inhabitants. The journey continues at the zoo’s Dinosaur Discovery Track, where children can apply their new knowledge in an exciting real-world setting – the perfect blend of education and entertainment.

Wednesday 16 April | 2:00-3:00 PM
Our Jungle Cat Bookmark workshop offers young readers aged 7+ the chance to create functional art. Children will select their favorite feline – from majestic tigers to sleek panthers – and craft a personalized bookmark to accompany them on literary adventures. This activity not only promotes reading engagement but also teaches basic design principles through the careful arrangement of colors and patterns.

Thursday 17 April | 2:00-3:00 PM
Understanding the need for inclusive programming, we’re proud to offer this special Crafts for Neurodivergent Kids session. In our quiet Event Space, removed from the busier children’s areas, participants and their caregivers will enjoy a calmer creative experience. Our librarians have carefully selected sensory-friendly materials and designed projects that accommodate various needs. With limited spaces available, each registered family will receive a personalized phone consultation to ensure we meet their child’s specific requirements for a positive experience.

Wednesday 23 April | 2:00-3:00 PM
The whimsical Pompom Caterpillar workshop brings springtime cheer to children aged 4+. Little hands will delight in assembling colorful pompoms into adorable crawling creatures, developing both creativity and dexterity. This tactile activity is particularly beneficial for young children learning about patterns and textures, with each participant taking home a unique creation.

Thursday 24 April | 6:00-6:30 PM
As evening falls, we invite families to our cozy Pyjama Storytime. This beloved tradition offers all ages the chance to unwind with enchanting tales read by our expressive librarians. Children are encouraged to wear their favorite sleepwear and bring along a comforting pillow or stuffed animal, creating a warm, shared experience that fosters a lifelong love of stories and reading.

Sunday 27 April | 2:00-3:00 PM
Concluding our holiday program is the DIY Origami Jumping Frog session for ages 5+. This self-directed activity allows children and caregivers to work at their own pace following provided instructions. The simple yet magical transformation of paper into leaping amphibians demonstrates basic principles of geometry and physics in action, with participants taking home both their creations and new paper-folding skills.
