From time to time, our community needs moments of lighthearted joy and creative inspiration. We find this in unexpected places – in art that moves us, in music that lifts our spirits, and in the unconditional love of our animal companions. Just such a spirit of joyful connection animates the Lost Dogs’ Disco, coming to Aotea Square this April.

Embark on a journey through a vibrant, immersive installation and meet the 16 delightful dogs of the Lost Dogs’ Disco. This extraordinary exhibition transforms the square into a wonderland of light, sound and movement, inviting visitors of all ages to experience art in a whole new way.

As you encounter each dog in the happy pack – some towering up to 5.5m tall and all in various poses: curled-up, standing, even touching noses – their coats come alive with dynamic lighting effects that change as you move among them. These gentle giants greet visitors with responsive sounds – joyful grunts and friendly woofs that create an atmosphere of playful interaction.

You’ll meet four unique canine characters inspired by beloved breeds including Poodles, Bull Terriers, and Dachshunds, each with their own distinct personality expressed through light patterns and sound responses. The installation celebrates the special bond between humans and dogs while pushing the boundaries of interactive art.

The experience features a custom-designed electronic soundscape by award-winning composers, blending ambient music with a playful chorus of barks, growls, howls, and all manner of canine commotion. Special evening viewings offer a spectacular display as the dogs’ illuminated forms glow against the night sky.

This April, bring the whole family to experience the wonder of the Lost Dogs’ Disco – a celebration of connection, creativity, and the irresistible joy that dogs bring to our lives. The exhibition also includes:
