Good intentions, bad theology
The three friends start well — they sit with Job in silence for seven days, the appropriate response to grief in that culture. But once they start speaking, they insist Job’s suffering must be punishment for some hidden sin, and spend chapter after chapter pressuring him to confess. By the book’s end, God rebukes them directly for not speaking truthfully about Him, while Job — who had argued honestly with God rather than offering easy answers — is vindicated.
