Jonah and the Great Fish
The prophet Jonah, fleeing God’s command to preach to Nineveh, was thrown overboard during a storm and swallowed by a great fish, spending three days and nights inside it before being spat out onto dry land. The story is told in the short book of Jonah.

Running from a calling
Jonah wasn’t fleeing danger — he was fleeing a mission he didn’t want, because Nineveh was the capital of Assyria, Israel’s enemy, and Jonah didn’t want them to be shown mercy. After the fish, Jonah does go and preach, the city repents, and God spares it — and the book ends not with celebration but with Jonah sulking, angry that God was compassionate to people he thought didn’t deserve it. It’s less a fish story and more a story about resenting grace given to someone else.
