Fire on Mount Carmel
One of the most dramatic scenes in the entire Bible happens on Mount Carmel. The prophet Elijah challenges the prophets of Baal to a public showdown to prove whose god is real — and when he prays a simple prayer, fire falls from heaven. The story is found in 1 Kings 18:20–39.

An impossible sacrifice
Two altars are set up. The prophets of Baal pray and shout all day, but nothing happens. Then Elijah repairs God’s altar, places the sacrifice on it, and even pours water over everything to make it humanly impossible to light. The fire that falls consumes not just the sacrifice, but the wood, the stones, and even the water in the trench around the altar. The crowd immediately knows that the Lord is the true God.
